While there are many certifications in parkour that are respected within the community, it can be hard to gauge coach skills (both physical, professional, and interpersonal) by looking at a piece of paper. We developed this series of professional development courses to show you how we develop programming for our classes. Once you complete these courses, you should have an understanding of the standards and expectations we have for coaches who handle our public programs.
Professional development can take many forms, and you should expect to take many coaching skills and insights away from this course. That said, our approach differs from many other coaching certifications that may strive to teach you specific skills for coaching a parkour technique or spotting an acrobatic move. We’ve found one of the best ways to explain the course is by listing all of the things that it isn’t.
Our professional development course is NOT:
A reference book for cues and techniques for coaching specific parkour skills
You will learn how to set up and make activities and drills, but this course focuses more on your approach as a movement coach in general and can be applied to any class, not just parkour.
A step-by-step and rigid guide for running a parkour class through The Movement Creative
We will share our tools for structuring classes, but the application of them is up to you. We encourage flexibility and adaptability; what works best in one class may not work well in another.
A passive course where you sit and listen to lectures while taking notes
Expect hands-on learning, games, and lots of movement. After all, “Movement” is in our name.
A coaching internship with hands-on experience in classes
While the skills you learn will ultimately help you as a coach, this is not an internship where you will be shadowing or assisting on classes right off the bat. We may role-play classes and have you design activities, but this is not a place to gain raw coaching experience.
A guarantee of a coach position at the end
While we would love to include each and everyone one of you on our coaching team, we cannot guarantee placement. You will, however, be added to a short list of instructors for new programs and public events!
Parkour athletes who want to hone their coaching skills
Coaches with experience working outside of parkour (e.g., gymnastics, martial arts, personal training)
Anyone who is passionate about movement and wants to share it with others
We will meet every Monday for 6 weeks starting March 14th. This course will cover three key pillars of The Movement Creative’s coaching methodology to help improve your skills as a movement instructor:
Coaching Skills
Physical Practice
Activity Design
This is a paid course, but we offer a sliding scale for those in financial need at 20/40/60% off; no one is turned away for lack of funds.

“You're going from planning and sport science to how to inspire parkour vision and risk assessment. You'll also have cool sessions about how to direct a session for different groups with different backgrounds directed by coaches with tons of experience in that field.
Be prepare for real situations with real people and be challenged at any moment.”
“Jesse and Mike make you feel comfortable with participating as they did themselves. They are the 2 most professional parkour coaches I know, and working side by side with them was a pleasure.
This course teaches you new ways to coach as well as how to connect with your community better. I would love to retake this course.”
